The pressure tank is the most overlooked component of a well water system. When it fails, the pump short-cycles — turning on and off rapidly for every small water draw instead of running in longer, efficient cycles. Short cycling dramatically shortens pump life and causes inconsistent water pressure throughout the home.

A pressure tank loses its air charge over time as the internal bladder or diaphragm deteriorates. When the air charge is gone, the tank is "waterlogged" — full of water with no air cushion. The pump then cycles on and off with every small demand, sometimes dozens of times per hour. We've seen pumps fail in 2–3 years due to a waterlogged pressure tank that was never addressed.
